Terms of Use
Terms for using OpenPlate.
Last updated: 28 February 2026
OpenPlate ("we", "our", "us") is a community-driven platform that helps people make informed dining decisions by sharing structured experiences and practice signals. By accessing or using OpenPlate, you agree to these Terms.
1. What OpenPlate Is
OpenPlate allows users to view and contribute community reports about dining practices (for example: fryer status, cross-contact controls, staff knowledge, and menu accuracy). OpenPlate is not a certification body and does not verify venues.
2. No Medical Advice
OpenPlate does not provide medical advice. Nothing on OpenPlate is a substitute for advice from a qualified health professional. Dining decisions remain your responsibility.
3. Community Content and No Guarantees
Reports and venue signals reflect user experiences at a point in time. We do not guarantee that information is accurate, complete, current, or suitable for your needs. Always confirm directly with a venue before dining.
4. Your Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use OpenPlate for lawful purposes only
- Submit reports in good faith, based on what you directly observed
- Avoid defamatory, misleading, or abusive content
- Respect the privacy of venues and other users
5. Prohibited Use
You must not:
- Attempt to manipulate venue signals (including coordinated reporting or spam)
- Post harassment, hate, or personal attacks
- Publish medical claims about venues
- Upload content you do not have the right to share
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or disrupt the platform
6. Accounts and Deletion
Accounts may be required for reporting or certain features. You may delete your account using the in-app deletion feature. We may suspend or restrict accounts that violate these Terms or the Guidelines.
7. Intellectual Property
The OpenPlate platform, branding, and site content are owned by OpenPlate or its licensors. You retain ownership of content you submit, but you grant us a licence to store, display, and use it to operate the platform and generate venue signals.
8. Third-Party Services
OpenPlate may rely on third-party services such as authentication providers and map services (including Google Maps/Places). We are not responsible for third-party outages, errors, or policy changes.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OpenPlate is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business interruption.
If we are found liable for any claim, our total liability is limited to AUD $100.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless OpenPlate and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the platform, your content, or your breach of these Terms.
