Guidelines
Community standards for OpenPlate.
OpenPlate is built on structured, good-faith reporting to support informed dining decisions for people who require strict gluten avoidance.
These guidelines outline how we expect the platform to be used respectfully, accurately, and constructively.
Our Principles
- Accuracy over emotion — Report what was directly observed, not assumptions or conclusions.
- Structure over volume — Use the reporting fields provided. Clear, specific information helps everyone.
- Respect over reaction — Venues and users should be treated professionally at all times.
- Transparency over certainty — OpenPlate does not certify venues. Reports reflect observed systems at a point in time.
Reporting Standards
When submitting a report:
- Describe what you directly observed.
- Avoid speculation about intent.
- Do not exaggerate or minimise.
- Use neutral language.
- Update your report if circumstances change.
Only your most recent report per venue contributes to tier calculations.
Venue Interaction
Venues may respond to reports, clarify practices, and provide updated information. OpenPlate encourages constructive engagement, not public disputes.
Prohibited Content
The following is not permitted:
- Personal attacks
- Defamatory statements
- Medical claims about venues
- False or misleading information
- Spam or promotional content
Reports that violate these standards may be removed.
Safety Reminder
Dining with coeliac disease always involves individual risk considerations. OpenPlate supports structured decision-making. It does not replace direct communication with venues or personal medical advice.
Ongoing Development
OpenPlate continues to evolve. These guidelines may be updated to improve clarity, fairness, and platform integrity.
